What do you dream about?
Dream car? Dream house? Dream job? Dream spouse?
Most everyone has at least one thing that they dream about. The real question is how do you plan to fulfill your dream… or dreams? Someone once said, “A dream without a plan is just a wish.”
Are the things you dream about just wishes? Or do you really want to see them come to fruition in your life?
Here are 4 steps to helping you bring your dreams or goals to reality:
1. WRITE IT DOWN
Habakkuk 2:2 “Write the vision: make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it…”
If you’re truly serious about your dream, then write it down. Don’t just keep it in your head. There’s something about writing your dream down that helps you stay accountable to it. God told Habakkuk to etch his dream into stone. Don’t let your dreams fade with memory, write them down to serve as a permanent reminder and as inspiration to keep you running toward it.
2. COMMIT IT TO THE LORD
Proverbs 16:3 “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”
Once you have written down your dream(s), commit it to God. You can do this by simply praying, “God, this is my dream and I dedicate it to you. Help establish my plan.” We kid ourselves when we try to pursue our endeavors without God’s favor and blessing. Share your desires with God and watch Him bless you and order your steps.
3. ACT ON IT
Philippians 3:14 “I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Paul “pressed” toward his goal. If you want to reach your goals or see your dreams become reality, you have to learn to press. While a dream doesn’t cost you a thing, a dream fulfilled does cost you. Therefore, you need to have a plan of action and begin taking steps that draw you closer to your goal. After you’ve written down your dream and committed it to God, write down your action steps for achieving your dream. Get a plan into place so you can begin tracking your progress. Remember, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.
4. WAIT FOR IT
Romans 12:12 “Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.”
Sometimes our dreams don’t come exactly when we want them to. God told Habakkuk that his dream awaited an “appointed time.” When we commit our desires and dreams to the Lord, we must trust that He knows the right timing for our dreams to become reality. So while you are waiting, rejoice in the hope of your dream. Be patient when the struggles get tough. Someone once told me, “If your dream is easy, then it isn’t big enough.” Don’t lose heart and settle for cheap alternatives. Hold out for God’s very best for your life.
